Tattooing, a practice that can be found nearly anywher nowadays, widely spreading and catching up with the changes our social world is undergoing, its been along side of us since the beginning of humanity and continues to evolve rapidly offering many styles and approaches to special types of tattooing.
The rituals of tattooing.
Tattooing, in my opinion, is a living practice, it changes depending on teachings from tattooer to apprentice, evolving with the artist to accommodate their style and better fit their expression of their art and abilities.
unaware of the rituals already undergoing on its practice to the mundane eyes, let's step a little closer to see the rituals already being part of everyday tattooing for both, client and tattooist.
Through the 12 years of experience I have as a tattooist, I've heard clients talk about their personal choice of "when to get tattooed", some only get tattooed at certain seasons of the year, others mention that they only do it when things are stressful (I can relate to that!) and hence a tattoo becomes relaxing and compare it to getting a massage.
Stress buildup in the body can be released in many forms, interestingly enough, when one choses to get a tattoo during stressful times, they are unknowingly stepping into a type of practice which is similar but not as dramatic as bloodletting. I personally get tattooed during times of stress where I've felt I needed to make a change, leading me to a tattoo idea, giving meanings to the idea and undergoing the process, after I felt much better, as good as if someone took a big load off my back, over the years growing in knowledge of occult practices, it allowed me to see things a bit deeper from a first hand experience and think on the process I've undergone, I pinpointed these stressful times to be crossroads in my life, talking to my artist about the piece would bring light on the reason of the change, allowing me to revisit this crossroads and how I got to making a choice which resulted in a tattoo, undergoing the tattoo, not visible to the naked eye, blood droplets spray everywhere carrying some of this energy out of the body with it, resulting in a type of cleansing, allowing for a fresh start in the direction chosen, listening closely to clients how their lives changed in similar ways, it helped me discern this process and look at tattooing closer to my ancestral roots... bringing me to Acat, Mayan deity of tattooing and scarifications, growth and development.
To the eyes of the Mayans, to undergo such a process meant a big deal, sacrifice and honor, more so if the person had a deity symbol tattooed on them, back then, tattoos were done with reeds instead of needles, designs varied from deities, to ornamental flowers, and symbols, etc., the sacrifice and pain was seen as a valuable part of the process, the bloodshed by the person being tattooed would feed the gods and the tattoo left behind would become a mark of devotion, bringing the deities favor over the devotee/ tattooed person, it was this that inspired me to honor my ancestral roots and my work as a tattooer and as an occultist together by making a painting in honor of Acat, giving way to an expansion of my work into ceremonial tattooing.
Speaking with fellow tattooers in the industry who have no spiritual practice, over the years, I've seen, heard of cases where a tattooer's luck turns chaotic, affecting from their social life to personal life, as mentioned before, when a tattooer is performing a tattoo, blood is being picked up, the energy the client is releasing has to go somewhere, a tattooist without spiritual protection can easily pick this up, over time after accumulating enough of this energy, it begins to affect them with what seems like a case of "bad luck", this is my deduction as a conjurer and tattooist, from first hand experience.
Over the years as a tattooist, alongside practicing Conjure, Quimbanda and working with nature spirit allies, I was able to apply my practice into tattoos which I've performed on myself, close friends, god-brothers/god-sisters and clients, a service I offer to both practitioners and non-practitioners who seek a ritualistic purpose based tattoos to help them achieve their desired goals.
depending on the case, the ritual is accommodated to meet the needs, if it's to honor a deity or spirit, offerings can be made and given to conjure the spirit and ask for a blessing over the tattoo.
ritualistic purpose based tattooing is based on a design I create after a small consultation/divination is performed to help channel a clear image, further creating a personal series of symbols designed to help empower and achieve the goal in mind, followed by activation and instructions of maintenance.
Sigils, and other symbols, depending the background of practice, it would be discussed prior to the day of tattoos, this helps shed light on the type of ceremony that must be performed.
Ancestral ashes, where a person brings the ashes and a photo of the family member to be part of the memorial tattoo, offerings are given to the dead to help ensure blessings from your ancestors.

El tatuaje, una práctica que se puede encontrar en casi cualquier parte del mundo hoy en día, se está extendiendo y poniéndose al día con los cambios que está experimentando nuestro mundo social, ha estado a nuestro lado desde el comienzo de la humanidad y continúa evolucionando rápidamente ofreciendo muchos estilos y enfoques de especialidad para tatuarse.
El tatuaje, en mi opinión, es una práctica viviente, cambia dependiendo de las enseñanzas del tatuador al aprendiz, evolucionando con el artista para acomodar su estilo y adaptarse mejor a la expresión de su vision y habilidades.
Inconscientes de los rituales que ya son parte de su práctica para los ojos mundanos, vamos a dar un paso más de cerca para ver los rituales que ya forman parte del tatuaje diario tanto para el cliente como para el tatuador.
A lo largo de los 12 años de experiencia que tengo como tatuador, he escuchado a clientes hablar sobre su elección personal de "cuándo tatuarse", algunos solo se tatúan en ciertas estaciones del año, otros mencionan que solo lo hacen cuando las cosas son estresantes (¡puedo relacionarme con eso!) y, por lo tanto, un tatuaje se vuelve relajante y lo comparamos con recibir un masaje.

A lo largo de los años creciendo en el conocimiento de las prácticas ocultas, me permitió ver las cosas un poco más profundamente, experimentando en primera mano y pensando en procesos previos a los que me había sometido, identifiqué estos tiempos estresantes como una encrucijada en mi vida, hablar con mi artista sobre la pieza me daría luz a una decisión, lo que me permitiría volver a visitar esta encrucijada y cómo llegué a tomar una decisión que resultó en un tatuaje. Durante un tatuaje, no visible a simple vista, las gotas de sangre se esparcen por todas partes llevando parte de esta energía fuera del cuerpo con estas, lo que resulta en un tipo de limpieza, lo que permite un nuevo comienzo en la dirección elegida. Escuchando atentamente a los clientes cómo sus vidas cambiaron de manera similar, me ayudó a discernir este proceso y mirar el tatuaje más cerca de mis raíces ancestrales ... llevándome a Acat, la deidad maya del tatuaje y las escarificaciones, el crecimiento y el desarrollo.
Para los ojos de los mayas, someterse a tal proceso significaba bastante, sacrificio y honor, más aún si la persona tenía un símbolo de deidad tatuado en ellos, en ese entonces, los tatuajes se hacían con cañas en lugar de agujas, diseños que variaban de deidades a flores ornamentales, símbolos, etc., el sacrificio y el dolor fueron vistos como una parte valiosa del proceso, el derramamiento de sangre por parte de la persona tatuada alimentaría a los dioses y el tatuaje dejado atrás se convertiría en una marca de devoción, trayendo la bendición de las deidades para favorecer al devoto / persona tatuada, fue esto lo que me inspiró a honrar mis raíces ancestrales y mi trabajo como tatuador y como ocultista juntos al hacer una pintura en honor a Acat, dando paso a una expansión de mi trabajo en los tatuajes ceremoniales.
Hablando con otros tatuadores en la industria que no tienen práctica espirituales, a lo largo de los años, he visto casos en los que la suerte de un tatuador se vuelve caótica, afectando desde su vida social a su vida personal, como se mencionó anteriormente, cuando un tatuador está haciendo un tatuaje, la sangre del cliente se esparce en parte sobre el artista y el alrededor, la energía que está liberando el cliente tiene que ir a alguna parte, un tatuador sin protección espiritual puede fácilmente adquirir esta energía negativa, con el tiempo, después de acumular suficiente energía negativa, comienza a afectarlos con lo que parece una caso de "mala suerte", esta es mi deducción como conjurador y tatuador, por experiencia de primera mano.
A lo largo de los años como tatuador, además de practicar Conjure, Quimbanda y trabajar con aliados de los espíritus de la naturaleza, pude aplicar mi práctica en los tatuajes que me he realizado a mí mismo, a mis amigos cercanos, a los hermanos / hermanas espirituales y a los clientes. Servicio que ofrezco tanto a practicantes como a no practicantes que buscan un tatuaje basado en un ritual que les ayude a alcanzar sus metas deseadas.
Dependiendo del caso, el ritual se acomoda para satisfacer las necesidades, si es para honrar a una deidad o espíritu, se pueden hacer y dar ofrendas para conjurar el espíritu y pedir una bendición sobre el tatuaje.
El tatuaje ritualista basado en un propósito se basa en un diseño que yo hago después de que se realiza una pequeña consulta / adivinación para ayudar a canalizar una imagen clara, creando aún más una serie personal de símbolos diseñados para ayudar a empoderar y lograr el objetivo en mente, seguido de la activación e instrucciones de mantenimiento.
Los sellos y otros símbolos, dependiendo de los antecedentes de la práctica, se discutirá antes del día del tatuaje, esto ayuda a dar luz sobre el tipo de ceremonia que se debe realizar.
Cenizas ancestrales, donde una persona trae las cenizas y una foto del miembro de la familia para que formen parte del tatuaje conmemorativo, se entregan ofrendas a los muertos para ayudar a asegurar las bendiciones de sus antepasados.
